In 2009 Scottish singer Susan Boyle shocked the world with her angelic voice when she auditioned on the English talent show “Britain’s Got Talent”.  Now she has been awarded a honourary doctorate degree for her contribution to the creative industries from Queen Margaret’s University in Edinburgh.  On her website, Boyle said that it was  a lovely afternoon and that she is, “tickled pink,” to be called Doctor Susan Boyle
Boyle has attended Queen Margaret’s University in the past.
In January 2009 a matronly church worker stepped on the stage to audition for the popular talent show “Britain’s Got Talent”…and shocked not only head judge Simon Cowell but the entire world when Susan Boyle sang “I Dreamed a Dream” from the musical “Les Miserables”.  While her audition video garnered millions of hits, the songstress placed second in the competition.
Cowell signed Boyle to a record contract even though she didn’t win.  In the past three years Boyle has released two albums – “I Dreamed a Dream” and “The Gift” – and has sold over 18 million records around the world.  Boyle’s “I Dreamed a Dream” has been certified seven times platinum in her native United Kingdom and four times platinum in the United States.  “The Gift” has sold over two million albums in the US.
